Mr. Florian Kek | Sustainable Metallurgy | International Metallurgist Award
RHI Magnesita / MIRECO | Austria
Florian Kek is a metallurgical and industrial engineer specializing in sustainable steelmaking, circular economy solutions, and slag engineering. He is currently a PhD researcher in Metallurgy at the University of Leoben, focusing on the dissolution behavior of secondary metallurgical additives in steelmaking slags, while working as Circular Metallurgical Additives and Slag Engineering Specialist in Technical Marketing Europe at RHI Magnesita, Vienna. His professional experience spans more than seven years across technical marketing, business development, product management, and R&D, with hands-on leadership of industrial trials for greener steel production in EAF, BOF, and LF processes. He holds MSc and BSc degrees in Metallurgy from the University of Leoben, complemented by international academic exposure through the EURASMUS Materiales program. His research integrates refractory recycling, circular metallurgical additives, and digital modelling to enhance slag performance and resource efficiency. He is the main author of peer-reviewed and industry-focused publications on green steel and sustainable slag engineering. Current scholarly metrics include an h-index of 4, four scientific and technical documents, and approximately 30 citations. He has received professional recognition through trusted technical leadership roles in European steel plants. His work bridges science and industry, contributing practical pathways toward low-carbon, circular steelmaking.
